SUMMARY:[:en]Author in Residence: Fall in Love with the Problem\, Not the Solution[:]
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n1 hour\nMobile eTicket\n\n\n\n\nUnicorns—companies that reach a valuation of more than $1 billion—are rare. Uri Levine has built two. Over the past twenty years\, Levine has both started and worked with dozens of startups\, and he believes the key to success is to start with the problem first. He’s discovered that if the problem is big\, then it’s a journey worth taking. \nHow can an entrepreneur determine whether the solution they’ve conceived is a worthy pursuit? What does it truly takes for a startup to succeed\, and what components does the entrepreneur need to build out to drive that success? In this exciting fireside chat\, Levine will give us an inside look into his startup journey and share the lessons he learned along the way. \nAs a mentor and teacher\, Levine is committed to encouraging entrepreneurs to focus on society-wide problems so that they can build their own highly valued companies. His vision is specifically intended to help entrepreneurs disrupt inefficient markets and improve under-functioning services; to focus on solving ‘BIG problems\,’ while saving consumers time and money. \n  \nKey Takeaways: \n\nHow to evaluate if an idea can become a startup\nHow to figure out your product-market fit\nHow to determine your business model and lock down your growth path\nThe key components of building a successful startup that will disrupt “broken” markets\nThe importance of firing and hiring the right people\nHow entrepreneurs can prepare for their eventual exit from the company\nThe importance of paying it forward and guiding other entrepreneurs in need\n\nOUR SPECIAL GUEST \n\n\n\n\n\nUri Levine\nAuthor of ‘Fall in Love with the Problem\, not the Solution’\nUri Levine is a passionate entrepreneur and disruptor\, a two-time ‘unicorn’ builder (Duocorn). SUMMARY:[:en]Storyselling strategies For B2B entrepreneurs[:]
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\nIn the past businesses made sales to buyers who had no access to information and so buyers trusted the data that was provided by sellers through their pitches\, product spiels and glossy brochures. And then the Internet happened\, and the Knowledge Economy was born. Buyers could now do their own research\, undertake deeper due diligence\, and begin to discern those relevant sellers from irrelevant ones . By rediscovering the power of STORY for SELLING\, those who want to connect\, convert and create change in their buyers world more effectively\, are now able to tap into this under-rated resource. The B2BSTORYSELLING Circles will help you market your influence so that you can more profitably and confidently influence your market. SUMMARY:[:en]Author in Residence: HANGRY: A Startup Journey with Mike Evans[:]
DESCRIPTION:GrubHub founder Mike Evans reveals the inside story of how a pizza craving turned into a hobby changed the way we eat. \n\n\n\n\nWhen and where\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate and time\n\nWed\, November 2\, 2022\, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM PDT\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\nOnline \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\n\nHungry and tired one night\, Mike wanted a pizza\, but getting a pizza delivered was a pain in the neck. He didn’t want to call a million restaurants to see what was open. So\, as an avid coder\, he created GrubHub in his spare bedroom to figure out who delivered to his apartment. Then\, armed with a $140 check from his first customer and ignoring his crushing college debt he quit his job. Over the next decade\, Mike grew his little delivery guide into the world’s premier online ordering website. In doing so\, he entered the company of an elite few entrepreneurs to take a startup from an idea all the way to an IPO. \nBut it wasn’t as easy as pie. GrubHub’s journey from Mike’s bedroom to Wall Street doesn’t fit into how business schools teach entrepreneurship. In Hangry\, he details step-by-step the grind of building an innovative business\, with each chapter including sharp lessons for entrepreneurs and startups\, that Mike learned on the fly as he piloted GrubHub’s meteoric rise by the seat of his pants. Hangry reveals a decade of 80-hour work weeks\, detailed steps of how Mike garnered his first customers\, his intense hunt for financing dollars\, cliffhanger acquisitions\, the near collapse of his marriage\, a brutally difficult merger\, and a pair of tumultuous quit/unquit moments\, all to steer the company to become one of the most dynamic\, successful\, and revolutionary startups in the world. With a razor-sharp wit\, Mike reveals surprising insights about how people approach food\, and hard-won truths about how startups succeed—and even harder-won truths about how startups fail. \nShocking everyone\, at the pinnacle of startup success\, Mike leaves it all behind\, quitting the company he started to bike across the United States in search of balance. But eventually\, the grand vistas of America bring the lessons of the past into focus\, driving the realization that for entrepreneurs a hunger for success doesn’t end\, and he considers starting another company\, even more ambitious than the first. \n  \nOUR SPECIAL GUEST \n\n\n\n\n\nMike Evans\nAuthor\, HANGRY: A Startup Journey\nMike Evans founded GrubHub in his spare bedroom and grew it into the multi-billion-dollar online food delivery colossus that is a household name. After leaving GrubHub post-IPO\, he punted it all to ride his bike across the United States. His book Hangry comes out November 2022. More recently\, Mike founded Fixer.com\, an on-demand handyperson B-corp that trains its employees from scratch. Mike is passionate about professional and personal vision\, and a strong proponent of impact businesses – for profit companies that use their power to bring about positive social change. \n\n\n\n\n\nMatt Paget\nBoard Member at Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center; Founder at Extension PR\nModerator\nNasdaq Entrepreneurial Center board member Matt Paget is a communications advisor to some of the world’s most innovative companies and entrepreneurs. He is co-founder of Extension PR\, a Los Angeles-based agency that works with category-leading brands in the technology and consumer spaces. Prior to founding Extension in 2011\, Matt worked at global agencies Rogers & Cowan and Hill & Knowlton\, and began his career at Citigroup. He has previously co-chaired Auction Napa Valley and the Hospital For Special Surgery Junior Committee. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center is a 501c(3) public charity whose mission it is to make entrepreneurship accessible to all.
